Palatines to America
is a genealogical society dedicated
to the study of ancestors from all German-speaking lands, not just the Palatinate.
We take our name from the fact that some of the earliest German-speaking immigrants
to the American colonies came from a region in present-day Germany known as
the Palatinate
and were called
Palatines.
We maintain a rapidly growing
library
that is available to all who are researching German-speaking ancestry.
We also publish a quarterly
journal
and other
publications
on German-speaking genealogical research.

You can now request a search
of the Library's new computerized, consolidated index of the Society's Ancestor Chart Project collection (12 volumes to date). The Ancestor Chart collection consists of thousands of charts showing the direct ancestral lines of many Pal-Am members, past and present, and serves as the Society's surname exchange file to connect people with common ancestry. You can order a pre-paid search of the digital chart index for $5.00 per name for members and $10.00 per name for nonmembers (additional fees may apply for copies of any charts located). See the
guidelines for making a copy request
and the
order form
for a quick copy request.
Orders involving a common surname like Miller/Mueller, Hoffman, or Smith/Schmidt must include a given (first) or full name for a search and other potentially limiting information such as approximate date and place of birth.

The Palatines to America Library recently received the genealogical research library of Dr. Kathryn Utz, of Whitewater, Wisconsin. Dr. Utz, a retired professor at University of Wisconsin, was a founding member of Palatines to America in 1975 and served as the first national secretary. Her focussed collection of more than 1000 books and maps particularly enriches the Library's holdings of Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Ohio sources, and is greatly appreciated. Read more...
